About Me
I'm Rachel and I just love taking photos!! I'm based in Outer East Melbourne, on the edge of the Dandenong Ranges.
I think it's fabulous to be able to take treasured, professional images of your precious family. Life is steaming ahead and we need to stop and capture that moment in time. I know it gives me so much pleasure looking back and reflecting on wonderful memories.
I have had a fascination with photography since childhood when my older brother would set up scenes in our garden and snap away with an old Polaroid camera creating visual storytelling with props and toys.
I dipped in and out of photography myself up until 2013 when I completed a Diploma in Professional Photography at the Photography Institute, graduating with a perfect score for my final portfolio.
Since then I have been developing my skills further and have two wonderful and, mostly, willing models in my teenage daughters! I have also taken part in two exhibitions where I have created a themed body of work (you can see these under Portfolio, Fine Art). My 'Surreality' project has been recognised nationally.
My photography style
My interests are wide, but I love capturing natural light portraits. I aim for a relaxed session with the emphasis on fun and connection - you don't always need to pose for the camera! In fact candid shots can say so much more. I work with light to enable the most flattering and beautiful images. I am constantly mastering new skills via workshops, online tutorials and networking with other photographers.
What am I like!
I like to have fun, to travel and to provide memories for my children - although at 15 and 17 they are nearly adults! I believe I am doing a great job in teaching them to be strong, independent women. I love to spend time with my husband of nearly 25 years - a sneaky lunch or coffee an cake! To me there is always something to be grateful for and I seek out the beauty in my surroundings. On a rainy day, a flock of Cockatoos against a menacing grey sky or catching an amazing sunrise on an early drive to the station - we live in a wonderful world!
